General Introduction
Minh Ly Dao Tam Tong Mieu is one of the main bodies of the Tien Thien Dai Dao, established in 1924 in Vietnam, with a motto based on the teachings of the three major religions in Southeast Asia: Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. The three words Minh Ly Dao have many meanings, including both the theory and practice of self-cultivation and practice. In the simplest understanding: Minh (verb) means to make clear, Ly is the absolute Truth, Dao is the path. Thus, Minh Ly Dao is the path to clarify the absolute Truth. The Proclamation of Dao Minh Ly explains the three words Minh Ly Dao as follows: Dao is the foundation of quite a search, Minh is the shallow conscience to examine. That reason is the true nature without duality, Distinguishing misfortune and blessing without comparison. The motto of Minh Ly Dao is EQUALITY - COLLABORATION - HARMONY Dao Minh Ly was established based on three core principles:
1. The Three Religions Unified:
- In terms of origin, the three great religions in the East have the same root, which is the Tao. To be far from the root is to lose the truth.
- In terms of form, the Three Religions currently have differences and similarities. Now we must unite, that is, to unite those differences, to establish a new, more complete form (syncrétisme).
2. The Three Religions Return to the Origin:
- In terms of origin, the three great religions in the East have the same root, which is the Tao. To be far from the root is to lose the truth.
- In terms of form, the Three Religions currently have differences and similarities. Now we must unite, that is, to unite those differences, to establish a new, more complete form (syncrétisme).
3. Holding on to the middle and the first:
is to hold on to the great root, the first source, as if not holding on to it, in order to reach the natural Tao of the Middle One or the Perfect One, which is still one with the Perfect One (Identité suprême), possessing all the immeasurable virtues.
Long An Temple
Teaching the practice of self-liberation and helping others to be liberated; self-enlightenment and helping others to be enlightened. Aiming to sanctify people, to attain complete liberation and enlightenment, as the Proclamation says: "Establishing a holy temple, finding scriptures, To convert people to repentance and practice."
Reconcile all beliefs and community trends, synthesize all paths to have only one religion, one heart. Minh Ly people must open their hearts, come closer to each other, regardless of region or color, keeping the spirit of "That Minh Ly is the common foundation of all religions".
Purely practice, not influenced by personal feelings or interests, avoid letting the holy virtue be secularized.
The architecture is built according to the Taoist theory of Three (3) Five (5) One (1):
Minh Ly Dao Tam Tong Temple only uses tablets with the names of Buddha and Immortals for worship and contemplation, not using images.
Use Vietnamese to describe the Sutras and chant.
The architecture of Minh Ly Dao temple (82 Cao Thang, Ban Co ward, Ho Chi Minh city) consists of three parts built according to the Taoist theory of Tam (3) Ngu (5) Nhut (1).
The outermost part is called the Five Elements Platform, consisting of three floors corresponding to the Three Poles and five roofs corresponding to the Five Branches of the Path, as follows:
1. Ground floor: Altar of the Gate of the Earth God.
2. First floor: Treasure House (containing scriptures).
3. Second floor: Hong Chung So (where there is a big bell).
4. Third floor: Vong Thien Platform (octagonal shape) represents a bell that rings out to urge the ignorant masses to wake up soon. Vong Thien Platform has eight sides with the wind flowers representing the eight words Kien, Tu, Ngu, Nghiep, Mang, Tien, Niem, Dinh of the Noble Eightfold Path (right view, right thinking, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration).
5. Flagpole (dharma platform).
The middle part consists of three roofs, called Tam Cuc Linh Dai, where Minh Ly disciples perform rituals.
The innermost part is a semicircular dome called Chau Thien Dai, where there is a five-level marble pedestal, worshiping the holy names of the Divine Beings and a three-level altar to display offerings (sacrificial offerings).
This architecture symbolizes the founding principle of Minh Ly Dao (which is Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism in unison) and the principle of pure practice of disciples (which is Tam Ngu in unison).
In addition to the Tam Tong Mieu Holy Land, Minh Ly Dao also has other worshiping establishments such as Bac Nha Tinh Duong (Long Hai Commune, Ho Chi Minh City), Long An Holy Land (Khanh Hau Ward, Tay Ninh Province) and Bao An Tu (Hoa Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
